Southern Utah University offers an AACSB-accredited bachelor’s program in accounting, with nearly 100 percent of the school’s accounting graduates employed right after graduation, many of whom land a job before they have officially graduated. The Southern Utah University Department of Accounting offers a two-semester fast track to students who wish to complete a master’s in accountancy following their bachelor’s degree. This means that with just 30 additional credit hours, a student can be ready to become a full-fledged licensed Certified Public Accountant in as little as five years.
We also offer a Joint MAcc/MBA program for those who wish to earn both degrees at the same time.
Southern Utah University’s Department of Theatre, Dance, and Arts Administration offers you the opportunity to the study acting within a professional Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. Students must be admitted to SUU and then audition into the BFA program. There are two points of entry into the program, beginning of freshman year or end of freshman year. This degree program is great for students who are looking for a professional career in acting upon graduation.
The Department offers opportunities to work with Mainstage, student producing organization Second Studio, and a series of Black Box productions. Between those productions there are typically 12 – 13 different shows produced within the department a year providing numerous ways for students to become involved. Departmental casting policy limits student casting to one departmental production per semester. This allows more acting students the ability to be cast within some level of departmental production during a semester.
Southern Utah University’s roots are deeply embedded in the study of agriculture. Students in SUU’s agricultural sciences and industries program study the latest science behind farming and apply that education first hand on the university’s 800-acre farm and 2,800-acre mountain property. All Art majors are accredited by NASAD at SUU. The bachelor of studio arts focuses on art and design in the context of a broad program of general studies. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art Education is a professional degree that focuses on studio work in art and design, art history, critical thinking and effective instructional methods. A program of general studies and education requirements for secondary licensure support the degree. This degree enables students to develop a basis for art education that is informed by an understanding of various media, the elements and principles of art, historical and cultural art contexts and effective teaching practices. The BFA is fundamentally different from a BA or BS, because it requires 74 credits in art and design, rather than 40 to 50. It is the preferred degree for art educators. Southern Utah University is among the small group of institutions that are accredited in art and design by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Southern Utah University's athletic training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program is unique because it gives students the opportunity to work closely with NCAA Division I college athletes, local high school sports teams, and chiropractors and physicians from throughout the southern Utah region, providing a wide range of hands-on experience unmatched by other undergraduate programs across the state.
Southern Utah University provides a bachelor of science degree in aviation with two emphases: Rotor-Wing (helicopter) and Fixed Wing (airplane). These tracks share a common core of both general education and aviation core courses. Specialized flight labs for the two Pilot specializations involve simulators and various aircraft which are housed at the Cedar City Airport. This degree provides multiple ways for students to develop skills to succeed. SUU students are able to pursue a global focus or stay closer to home with a variety of local businesses.
In the accelerated program, full-time students can complete the MBA in one year if they have previously satisfied a set of foundation-course requirements typically obtained with a bachelor’s degree in a business field. A comprehensive program, which can be completed in two years of full-time study, is also available for those without prior business training. MBA courses are offered in both face-to-face and online formats, and the entire degree can be completed online if desired.

Southern Utah University's business education program is designed specifically for those students with a strong desire to teach business at the secondary education level. By graduating from this SUU degree program, you will complete all the requirements to be licensed to teach business in the state of Utah. In addition, every student in the Business Education degree program participates in Professional Business Leaders (PBL) and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), organizations that provide excellent experience and career connections for the future.
The Ceramics/Sculpture emphasis leads to a professional BFA degree intended for students wishing to work in three-dimensional media, particularly ceramic materials. Both sculptural and vessel approaches are explored in this degree program. Candidates generally choose one area in which to focus for the final portfolio and senior exhibition. Students achieving the BFA will either work as studio artists, in cross disciplines, or continue their studies in graduate degree programs. Those choosing a ceramics focus will know and understand advanced throwing and hand building skills, kiln firing in gas, electric, sodium vapor, wood-fire, and other kilns; and will know studio safety and hazard prevention, glaze and clay formulation, and post firing techniques. Emphasis is placed on creative problem solving and expression, creative thinking and spatial reasoning.

Southern Utah University’s ABET-accredited engineering bachelor’s degree program acquaints students with a broad range of engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering. It is the only truly integrated engineering program offered anywhere in the state of Utah and it is excellent preparation for graduate school or to begin a career in the engineering field. Engineering is a hands-on program at SUU. Every course requires the completion of projects through which students demonstrate their understanding of the key concepts covered.

Southern Utah University is one of a very few universities that offer an ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology with an emphasis in Architectural/Civil Design. You will become proficient in vital architectural engineering and civil design skills such as mechanical design, architectural design, civil design, layout and design, 3D solid modeling, parametrics, kinematics’ analysis, finite element analysis, animation analysis, rendering, rapid prototype, and other skills.
Southern Utah University’s Engineering Technology, Electronics Emphasis program prepares you to enter a field that is rich in career opportunities. For the past few years, 100 percent of our Engineering Technology, Electronics Emphasis graduates have had jobs in the field lined up before graduation. Classes are purposely kept small (10-15 students) so that instructors can work closely with each student. In addition to the hands-on experience students gain in the classes themselves, many students earn internship credit associated with part-time jobs held in the Electronics field while they are still students.

Southern Utah University offers both a minor and a bachelor's degree program in English. The following emphases are available on both the minor and the bachelor's degree: Creative Writing, Literature, Secondary Education. In addition, a composite degree in Secondary Education/Creative Writing is available for English majors. The members of the faculty in the Department of English help students choose between various career paths such as writing the next great American novel, educating young minds, or becoming a Corporate Communications Specialist.

Southern Utah University’s Equine Studies associate degree program gives students hands-on experience working with horses. During the accredited, two-year program, you’ll cover everything from riding and training horses to horse husbandry including studies in the areas of agricultural business, vaccinations, horse production, horse science and industry, animal/livestock breeding, pest management, and range lands. The SUU Equine Studies program is the only equine-dedicated degree offered within Utah or Nevada and it is the only opportunity students have to become degree certified to work with horses.

Southern Utah University’s exercise science degree is designed to provide students with knowledge and training that qualifies them for additional education through graduate studies and prepares them for careers related to the fitness, wellness, and sport industries. The Family Life and Human Development Program at SUU is designed to provide knowledge and opportunities to understand and strengthen families. The department is currently seeking program approval from the National Council on Family Relations which will allow majors the option of graduating with a provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential. Class sizes are intentionally small to facilitate individualized programs and unique experiential learning opportunities in the community. The majority of department faculty are terminally qualified bringing diverse areas of expertise to enrich student experiences and outcomes.

Southern Utah University’s film and screen studies program’s mission is to teach students to apply a medium-specific method of analysis for interpreting cinematic texts, allowing them to participate in informed academic discussions of visual narratives as a sophisticated viewer/consumer of these texts in their regular, everyday lives.

Strong financial management is critical for entrepreneurs, small businesses and large corporations.

Southern Utah University offers a bachelor of the arts in French, a B.A. in French teaching and a French minor. The program has tutors and other opportunities to help students learn and practice speaking with others. Knowledge of French prepares students to compete in the global economy and enhances career opportunities in many fields. Pairing a French major with a second major (such as art history, political science, English, history, biology, business, or economics) makes students more marketable.
Southern Utah University’s GIS courses and laboratory serve many departments, degrees, and affiliated entities across the SUU campus and surrounding communities. The GIS program and laboratory use the most current technology, hardware, and software available. The GIS lab offers service learning opportunities to students through local and regional projects and internships. The mission of the GIS program is to prepare individuals to integrate spatial technologies with studies in other disciplines. We provide a learning environment that fosters undergraduate research.
Geography is traditionally divided into three areas, and all three are offered in the Southern Utah University’s geography curriculum. These include (1) physical geography, an examination of earth's physical systems; (2) human or cultural geography, which explores spatial relationships in human activities; and (3) technical or applied geography, including the technologies of geographic research, which encompasses cartography, GIS, GPS, and related technologies.

Between those productions there are typically 12 – 13 different shows produced within the department a year providing numerous ways for students to become involved. Departmental casting policy limits student casting to one departmental production per semester. This allows more acting students the ability to be cast within some level of departmental production during a semester.

Veterinary schools do not require a specific undergraduate major; however, the Departments of Agriculture and Nutrition Science and Biology cooperate closely in offering students the appropriate combination of courses and experiences to meet admission requirements. An SUU bachelor’s degree in biology with complementary elective courses or a minor in agriculture can be earned in approximately four years and is excellent preparation for veterinary school or graduate studies in animal sciences or biology. The purpose of the sustainability studies minor is to introduce students to concepts and practices of sustainability as they apply to our contemporary society. “Sustainability” refers to the ability of current populations to meet their needs, while not compromising the ability of future generations to also meet their needs. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students will be able to balance environmental, social, and economic priorities in addressing real-world problems. Any student admitted to SUU may declare this as a major. Students are required to have a secondary teaching minor if they choose to apply for licensure at the end of the program. The goals of the education degree are to prepare students to move directly into a teaching field of secondary education.
The Department offers opportunities to work with Mainstage, student producing organization Second Studio, and a series of Black Box productions. Between Mainstage, Second Studio, and Black Box productions there are typically 12 – 13 different shows produced within the department a year providing numerous ways for students to become involved.
Southern Utah University Women and Gender Studies Program seeks to enrich and inform students, faculty, and the community by presenting forums for discussion and presentations about the accomplishments of women past and present, as well as bringing awareness of women's opportunities and needs as they relate to women in a global society.
